Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 12/06/2013

Last week was just a ridiculous amount of fun, thanks to Bourbon County hitting.  I had an active few days on Twitter, Facebook, BeerAdvocate and in actual real human face-to-face interactions too. I met up with old friends and made some new ones.  This is why I love the beer community. Cheers!

Here’s this week’s report:

  • Deschutes The Abyss.  Latest update, first week of Dec HERE NOW. Yes, more awesome beer to drain your bank account.
  • Elevation’s BA Double IPA (formerly Inconceivable, now named Fanboy) is out NOW.
  • Racer X, Gift of the Magi, more Prairie, Mikkeller, Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Bean...(let me know when to stop)…Tilquin Gueuze, Left Hand Oak Aged Widdershins are all out now!

  • Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball? Maybe.
  • Boulevard Imperial Stout 2013? Should happen soon.

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 11/22/2013

Here’s this week’s report:

  • The Bruery 6 Geese-A-Laying should be out either late Nov or early Dec.  Bumping this up, there’s indication it will hit this week along with some Rueuze.
  • Port Santa’s Little Helper, He’Brew Jewbelation Reborn.
  • More Prairie.  I’m having a hard time tracking the CS/12% stuff…it’s very inconsistent.  Not complaining though…I actually like the surprises.  I do know that The Beer That Saved Christmas should be one of those dropped.
  • New Belgium/Patagonia California Route.  Cans. Puffy jackets. So on.
  • Odell Friek releases Nov 23rd (this coming Saturday) at the brewery.  We might see it hit shelves as early as this week, if not, next week.
  • TRVE Eastern Candle will be available at the brewery [only] on Nov 24th.  1:30 for Cvlt members, 2:00 for everyone else.
  • Elevation’s BA Double IPA (formerly Inconceivable, now named Fanboy) should be out soon?
  • Bourbon County Stout. Black Friday. Stay Tuned.

  • Firestone Walker XVII arriving this week.

  • DFH Immort Ale.
  • Look for Aspen Brewing Company brews to show up at select stores this week.
  • Renegade Hammer & Sickle, a 9% ABV RIS, cans came out last week at some locations.  Look for more this week.

  • Odell Friek releases Nov 23rd.
  • TRVE Eastern Candle will be available at the brewery [only] on Nov 24th.  1:30 for Cvlt members, 2:00 for everyone else.
  • Elevation’s BA Double IPA (formerly Inconceivable, now named Fanboy) should be out soon?
  • Deschutes The Abyss this month.  Maybe the week of Thanksgiving?
  • Let the drama of Bourbon County Stout live on.  Will we see it hit Denver? Will the variants make it here?  When will it hit (tentative = Black Friday)? Stay tuned beer friends, this could be interesting…  Of note; labels have been approved for CO for BCBS, Proprietors, Backyeard Rye and Barleywine.  Coffee was approved way back in 2010…I assume the past approval still stands but I don’t know how all this approval stuff works.  One major disclaimer: Just because a beer has been approved doesn’t mean we are getting it (i.e. – rare and vanilla were approved for CO).  Many times, they just get blanket approvals for everything.
  • The Bruery 6 Geese-A-Laying should be out either late Nov or early Dec.
  • Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball? Maybe.
  • Boulevard Imperial Stout 2013? Should happen soon.

  • Supposedly,  New Belgium Brewing’s latest Lips of Faith offerings (Cigar City + New Belgium Collaboration Ale and Wild2 Dubbel) have been released. Who knows when the hell Denver will get these, but keep your eyes peeled just in case.  Please let me know if you see them, in Denver or otherwise.  Well go figure…these are hitting Denver shelves now.
  • Avery Czar.
  • Renegade Hammer & Sickle, a 9% ABV RIS, cans out this week.  Time for some shotgunning. (it appears only some stores got it so far, look for more next week)
  • [Some of] The Four Sisters of Goose Island hit some stores last week.  LolitaGillian and Halia have hit very few select stores.  This week, Juliet has also been spotted along with the other 3 sisters.
  • By now, you’ve probably heard that Stone’s über-fresh Enjoy By 12.13.13 is hitting us.  I’d estimate it arrives sometime during the week of Nov 11th (next week).  Also from Stone; Double Bastard, Southern Charred, Crime and Punishment. <— Double Bastard is already hitting shelves this week.

  • Elevation’s BA Double IPA (formerly Inconceivable) should be out soon?
  • Firestone Walker XVII sometime this month.
  • Deschutes The Abyss this month.

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 11/01/2013

The big beers are coming.  Huge stouts, barleywines, holiday brews…collect them all!

Here’s this week’s report:

  • Huge Crooked Stave Artisans (12%) drop:
Crooked Stave L’Brett D’Or, Jester King Black Metal, more Prairie Artisan Ales, Oakshire Brewing Brewer’s Reserve 6th Anniversary Brandy Barrel Barleywine, Jackie O’s Mystic Mama IPA, Perennial Peach Berliner Weisse and Heart of Gold Wheatwine, and Hof ten Dormaal Dark Strong Ale aged in Armagnac Casks. Whew.
  • The Four Sisters of Goose Island seem to be hitting some stores.  Lolita hit a few select places last week, now Gilliam and Halia are hitting. I retract any earlier statements about these beers not hitting Denver. They are.
  • Elevation Apis IV is hitting some places now.
  • Some Paradox stuff.
  • Caution Brewing Barrel Aged Toaster Bat Black releases at 2 PM on Sat, Nov. 2 at the Denver tap room, 2445 E 39th Ave #314. Bottles are $25 and limited to 2. Only 20 cases.  Elevated Wood anyone?
  • Supposedly,  New Belgium Brewing’s latest Lips of Faith offerings (Cigar City + New Belgium Collaboration Ale and Wild2 Dubbel) have been released. Who knows when the hell Denver will get these, but keep your eyes peeled just in case.  Please let me know if you see them.
  • Renegade Hammer & Sickle, a 9% ABV RIS, should be out in cans sometime around Nov 6th.  Time for some shotgunning.
  • Elevation’s BA Double IPA (formerly Inconceivable) should be out soon.
  • Boulder Beer The Dude’s Bane (a Barleywine aged in Bourbon Barrels) releases Nov 16 at 3PM at Boulder Beer Co only.
  • Firestone Walker XVII sometime this month.
  • Deschutes The Abyss this month.
  • I was really hoping I’d be the one that broke the news about Bourbon County Stout…but GI beat me to it by posting the info on their Facebook page.  I was waiting to release the news until Nov hit…oh well.  At least let me be the guy that confirms it: I spoke with the local GI rep several weeks ago, right before GABF.  She said that Bourbon County Stout and all variants (except the one CHI-only variant) would be hitting CO.  Black Friday (Nov 29th) is the supposed release date…let’s see how this goes down.  Excited?
  • The Bruery 6 Geese-A-Laying should be out either late Nov or early Dec.

Look for more updates throughout the week (if there are any more to report).  Please share any Denver area beer release news you might have either in the comments or on Twitter @ssteigerwald.

  • Some Elevation brews, including a BA Double IPA (formerly Inconceivable) and the return of Apis IV should be out soon.
  • Ballast Point – Sorry guys, got word from 2 sources now that we won’t be seeing Ballast Point until Jan ’14. Maybe.  😦

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 10/18/2013

GABF kicked my ass. It’s only Monday, but the last thing I want to think about is beer.  Regardless, I’ll do my best to keep the updates rolling. Notice the dramatically smaller list to begin the week…let’s see what happens as the week progresses.

Here’s this week’s report:

  • Last minute addition: Ska Brewing / DC Brau collaboration with The Pietasters Taster’s Choice Coffee Doppelbock is starting to hit.  I assume we’ll see more next week.
  • Great Divide Grand Cru w/Peaches is out now (although it has hit very few places. Look for more next week).
  • Dogfish Head American Beauty is out now!  Open up your windows, cuz the Candyman’s in town.
  • Elevation Downpour, a Fresh Hop Extra IPA, has hit…as in now.  Remember that last year it was an imperial red?  Going forward, Downpour will be a slightly different fresh hop each year.
  • Saint Arnold Pumpkinator has hit (again, very few places…look for more next week).
  • It looks like AleSmith is here to stay for sure…they’ve sent some new goodies including Old Numbskull and Grand Cru.
  • Some new Hoppin’ Frog beers have shown up, including Frog’s Hollow Double Pumpkin, BA Boris, Hopped-Up Goose Juice and BA Outta Kilter.
  • Ommegang’s Take the Black Stout, the latest Game of Thrones beer, started to hit last week.  More hitting this week.
  • Odell Woodcut No. 7 is coming soon.  12.5% RIS. Yes please. Releases at the brewery on the 26th, so hopefully we’ll see it in stores around that time frame?
  • Ballast Point ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Look for more updates throughout the week (if there are any more to report).  Please share any Denver area beer release news you might have either in the comments or on Twitter @ssteigerwald.
