Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 06/01/2012

Here’s this week’s report:

  •  Green Flash/Founders Linchpin White IPA Collaboration is on the shelves.  I love these collaborations…we get to try breweries that don’t normally ship here.  Like Founders.
  • TRVE Brewing will open its doors on June 10th at noon and allow the public to sample Wanderlust, their Belgian-American Pale.  They’ll also be selling their growlers as part of their CVLT.  This is sort of a soft opening, in a way, and a great opportunity to sample a new beer from a new brewery.  They officially open June 27th.
  • Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA is being release June 10th, expect to see it hit the Denver market very shortly after that. At least, I hope this hits us?
  • Crooked Stave is releasing their next Cellar Reserve beer; Persica, a Sour Golden Ale Aged in Oak with Peaches.  Here’s the deal though; this one is super-mega-ultra limited. Reserve members will get their one bottle and can only order 1 extra. Expect to see none of these leftover and consider yourself lucky if you get your hands on one. Also, word is this one is absolutely fantastic. Those who have tasted it say it’s the best Crooked Stave release yet…I’m excited for this.  Being release May 26th June 16th (Chad changed the date on the account of it being the holiday weekend and such).

Look for more updates throughout the week (if there are any more to report).  Please share any Denver area beer release news you might have with me either in the comments or on Twitter @ssteigerwald.

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 05/25/2012

Here’s this week’s report:

  • AC Golden has the Hidden Barrel Project coming out with 3 sour beers; apricot, cherry and peach.  It will be sold in 750 ml bottles and it appears it will be available at only one location in the Denver metro area.  These will retail for $21.99 each.  I had the Apricot version at Rackhouse Pub…it was delicious! The apricot and peach will be released Saturday, May 26th at 9 AM.  From where?  Go find out yourself.  No word on the cherry yet…UPDATE: The cherry (Kriek) will go on sale July 7th. The label was just approved earlier this week.

  • Blue Moon‘s award winning Vintage Blonde Ale is out.  Why am I reporting on this? Well, someone might be interested in buying some.

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 05/18/2012

It’s American Craft Beer Week and Colorado Craft Beer Week…holy moly there are lots of releases and things going on. I started sifting through all the breweries and events and was considering posting them here…but honestly, there’s way too much going on. Check your favorite brewery’s website or Facebook page and find out what they’ve got going on. Honorable mentions; River North, Dry Dock, Falling Rock Tap House, Mountain Sun, Euclid Hall and Strange Brewing. But please do check your favorite places…almost everyone has something going on.  For a pretty comprehensive list of events, check out Denver Off the Wagon.  It’s madness, I say!

Here’s this week’s report:
  • Deschutes/Hair of the Dog Collage might hit this week. I say might, because from what I’ve read, it will be available at the breweries…but one source indicates it will hit here.  Hair of the Dog makes some kickass stuff and we don’t normally get them in CO, so this is a nice treat. This beer was actually brewed back in 2010 and has been aging in various barrels for 2 years! Zoinks!  (UPDATE: This one is definitely coming to Denver, but extremely limited and not until late May/early June) It’s here!  At least 2 stores have it right now, extremely limited 1 bottle limit.  A 3rd will have it this weekend…and probably others.
  • Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (BFM) Abbaye de Saint Bon Chien 2006, 2007, & 2009 (extremely limited yo!), Hanssens Oude Gueuze (750ml & 375 ML).  Plus more from our friends at Shelton Bros.
  • For you Pliny geeks, PtE has bombarded the state.
  • Yeah, so, Uinta Birthday Suit is out there too. Check reviews on this one, or be adventurous and say eff ‘em all.
  • Grand Teton Snarling Badger Berliner Weisse is coming next week.  This is a Cellar Reserve Series beer. It is a much stronger version than the usual Berliner Weisse at 7.5%.
  • AC Golden has the Hidden Barrel Project coming out with 3 sour beers; apricot, cherry and peach.  It will be sold in 750 ml bottles and it appears it will be available at only one location in the Denver metro area.  These will retail for $21.99 each.  Expected availability sometime this month…very soon. I had the Apricot version at Rackhouse Pub…it was delicious! From an extremely reliable source…we will see these on May 26th. Very limited with 8 cases of the peach and 16 cases of the apricot…if I remember correctly. Not sure about the cherry.
Being release May 26th.
  • Elevation Beer Company will release Apis IV,  a 10.5 percent ABV Belgian Dark Strong Ale, in 750 ML cork and caged bottles to Denver in late May. This will be their first beer in the Denver market.

Look for more updates throughout the week (if there are any more to report).  Please share any Denver area beer release news you might have with me either in the comments or on Twitter @ssteigerwald.

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 05/11/2012

Here’s this week’s report:

  • Firestone Walker Parabola is coming…maybe it’s here now!  It looks like this is going to be very limited quantities, so this is a true beer hunter’s item of interest.  Some inside info indicates this is coming to Colorado THIS WEEK, although it is unclear if that means it will hit shelves this week or next week…one rumor has it on shelves next week, another has it on shelves as early as 5/9 (Wed). Yep, I just bought a few bottles and know it is currently available at a few locations…and expect to see even more hit shelves by the end of the week.  Be warned, quantities are definitely limited. One store reported 1/2 a case.
  • I dropped the ball on not mentioning New Belgium’s Tart Lychee earlier in the week. I assumed that, like other Lips of Faith releases, it would be plentiful and on the shelves for a while. Well, I went out to look for some and one store ran out, the other store…I got the very last one on the shelf. If you find it, grab the hell out of it!
  • He’Brew Funky Jewbelation is hitting some stores right now. I’v been hearing great things about it too.
  • It sill remains to be seen if Oskar Blues/Sun King Chaka will hit shelves this week. I had some last week…and it was quite tasty. I haven’t seen any on shelves yet…
(UPDATE: Word is, there was an issue with the label. Once that is resolved, we should see these hit.)  I had the Apricot version at Rackhouse Pub last Saturday…it was delicious! (UPDATE 2: it looks like the label was approved late in April…soon come!) (UPDATE 3: From an extremely reliable source…we will see these possibly on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, May 26th. Very limited with 8 cases of the peach and 16 cases of the apricot…if I remember correctly).
Being release May 26th.

Denver Beer Hunter’s Report – 05/04/2012

Here’s this week’s report:

  • Oskar Blues/Sun King Chaka drops May 8th.  This Belgian-style 8% ABV ale will be in cans and gives us Coloradoans a chance to try Sun King in state.  80 barrels were produced in Colorado, 40 will be sent to San Diego for the CBC and 40 will stay right here in Colorado.  By my calculations, this is about 10,080 16 oz cans or 2520 4-packs.  Plenty to go around.  NOTE: I just read an article that says this beer is available now and only at the Tasty Weasel. $15.99 for a six four pack of aluminum cans. Yes…you read that right, aluminum cans. Or a 4 pack…details differ from various places…even from OB communications.  I’m very confused about this, I had previously heard it will be out May 8 and the amount seems more than enough to go around…can anyone provide me info? (NOTE: Someone went to the Tasty Weasel today and they didn’t even know if they were allowed to sell it. And yes, it comes in 4-packs…confirmed bitches!  I’m still betting this will be released to shelves next week as originally indicated.)
  • Danny’s Gold Mine Ale, a collaboration between Ska Brewing, Odell Brewing, New Belgium Brewing, Crooked Stave and Funkwerks, is due to hit this week.  This beer is a 10% ABV Strong Dark Ale and is a benefit for Danny William’s family.  750 ml bottles are expected to cost around $15, and up to 150 cases could be yielded (although expect some of this to be kegged instead yielding less cases). UPDATE: Looks like this will only be sold at the breweries listed above. For us Denver folks, that sucks balls.
  • Avery’s 18th Anniversary is dropping this week.
  • Dogfish Head Urkontenant & Black and Blue are hitting shelves too.
  • Mikkeller madness: Mikkeller/Grassroots Wheat Is The New Hops, Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Calvados, Mikkeller Big Worse Red Wine Barrel Edition and much more.  Maybe Shelton Bros screwed New York, but they are doing us good.  P.S. – At least three metro area stores got this big shipment of Mikkeller and other Shelton goodies.  I’m sure others have too.
  • Twisted Pine‘s next release in the Artisinal Ale series, Big Easy Offbeat Brown, will be released at the brewery this Saturday, the 5th from noon to 9PM.  A brown ale with wasabi, horseradish and ginger roots? Hmmm….
(UPDATE: Word is, there was an issue with the label. Once that is resolved, we should see these hit.  It looks like some of this is already scheduled to hit Rackhouse Pub on Saturday…)
  • Firestone Walker Parabola is coming this month!  It looks like this is going to be very limited quantities, so this is a true beer hunter’s item of interest.  <- It’s already showing up in CA. <- It’s coming to Colorado NEXT WEEK! Shhhhhh you bastards!

Look for more updates throughout the week (if there are any more to report).  Please share any Denver area beer release news you might have with me either in the comments or on Twitter @ssteigerwald.
